Arguably one of the famous animals in the world but probably for the wrong reasons.
We can't mention where you are more likely to have seen it due to copyright - trademark infringement.
The meerkat - also known as suricate - is a small carnivore and belongs to the mongoose family. Meerkats live in the Kalahari Desert in Botswana and in much of the Namib Desert in Namibia and southern Angola as well as South Africa. A group of meerkats is called a MOB - GANG or CLAN. A meerkat clan often contains about 20 meerkats but some super-families have 50 or more members. In captivity meerkats have an approximate life span of 12 to 14 years but sadly about half this in the wild.
